Master of Arts in Education Showcase
I chose to do the P-12 School and Postsecondary Leadership concentration through Michigan State's MAED program, which gave me the opportunity to further explore the ways in which I could serve as a better educator, mentor, and leader in my school. This ranged from evaluating program development, to assessing inclusive behaviors, becoming more forward thinking with the lessons I teach, and even making choices that better served my students' literacy development. This showcase highlights the various projects and assignments that collectively show how the P-12 School and Postsecondary Leadership Concentration has helped to emphasize that being a leader in my profession means showing my values and committment to education throughout my day to day teaching.
Mini-Unit: Holocaust Literature
TE 843 Secondary Reading Assessment and Instruction
Douglas Hartman
Being a leader in the classroom means taking chances and formulating units that challenge your students to go beyond conventional styles of thinking. The unit I designed was centered around an online Holocaust Literature course that explored various facets of literature and film through inquiry centered around the question, how does perspective shape our understanding? The unit challenged students to formulate a response that drew from their understanding of the content.

Goals and Reflection
Change and evaluation are a huge part of being an effective leader both in and out of the classroom. In this Self-Directed Professional Development, I looked at how I could get my students more invested in their writing. Particularly, focusing on how I improve the investment and quality of writing of my special needs students. Included is the reflection which revealed how students are more invested in their writing when they work in conjunction with their peers.
Literacy Case Study:
Vocabulary and Comprehension
TE 846 Accomodaring Literacy Learners
Guofang Li
Interpreting the needs of students and working towards meeting those needs is an essential part of growing as an educator. This case study takes a closer look at the needs of two students, specifically looking at their needs pertaining to vocabulary and comprehension. The study shed light on the ways in which I can reach all students while addressing individual needs.
Final Reflection:
Who I am in the Classroom
TE 804 Reflection and Inquiry into Teaching Practices II
Betsy Ferrer
As I mention in my goal statement, part of being an educator is learning to grow and change. This reflection piece was created at the end of my internship and required me to focus on some of the big ideas I gained throughout my experience. I focused on who I was as an educator, and what I needed to do to become an effective educator. I found that including pieces of yourself ultimately translates into a more committed and passionate teacher in the classroom.

Critical Reaction:
Marginalization and Oppression
EAD 822 Diverse Students and Families
Muhammad Kahliffa
Being an educator presents the unique opportunity to work towards social change. In this critical reaction, I look at the connection between parental involvement and institutionalized practices that prevent inner city parents from being involved in their children's lives. This assignment reaffirmed how important it is to provide equal education to all students and families.
Reflective Narrative:
Principals of Leadership
EAD 801 Leadership and Organizational Development
Nancy Colflesh
Leadership comes in many forms and with many facets to explore. This narrative focused on the most applicable and important aspects of leadership that EAD 801 focused on. This Reflective Narrative focuses on the principals of leadership I found to be the most important, and the shift in understanding I experienced throughout the course. This course provided me with the understanding of the tools I needed to make a positive change in my school.
